What’s up Kin Games Family!
It’s Darrius Samaco and Cody Bulaong, your Head Coordinators for Kin Games 2025! We’re thrilled to bring the third in-person Kin Games back to MRU this March.
Our Kin Games journey spans over a decade - Darrius with 8 years and Cody with 6... I know, we are getting old.
Dar’s journey started back in 2018 KG at the University of Alberta, leading MRU’s very first team under the guidance of Ryan Otsuka and Sarah Richard. Back then, there wasn’t enough interest for a full MRU squad, so what formed was a hybrid team with students from across the country (MRU, UofC, Dal & StFX). That first taste of Kin Games sparked a passion that ultimately shaped his life. He went on to captain MRU for three years, graduated in 2021 as a Certified Athletic Therapist, and even captained the Allstars for two more years before joining the Board of Directors. Cody’s Kin Games journey began in 2020 at Brock University, where he quickly connected with Dar’s passion as his rookie. In 2022, Cody led MRU to its first-ever 1st place overall victory, and after graduating with a degree in Physical Literacy, he returned as Allstars’ ambassador, with a secret plan alongside Dar to bring Kin Games to MRU.
And now, that dream is becoming a reality.
For both of us, Kin Games was more than just a conference. The event was an instrumental part of our undergraduate experience. Within this Kinmunity, we made countless memories and found belonging and Kinships that will last a lifetime. Kin Games gave us the space to grow and truly discover ourselves, and we now regard all of you, this entire conference, and it Feels like Home. This event gave us so much, and our mission is to pass that gift on to all of you to make your own stamp and write your own story.
Whether you’re a rookie or a veteran, embrace it all - every challenge, MVB, chant, call-out, and even whisper party. This weekend is about more than competition; it’s about finding your place in this community and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
We can’t wait to meet you and see what you bring to Kin Games 2025.
Peace, Love & KG
